Abstract:
This study examines the profound transformation of the geopolitical landscape in the Arctic, where the accelerated melting of ice driven by climate change has unveiled new shipping routes and natural resources, shifting the region from a peripheral zone of cooperation to a focal point of intense international competition. This exposure has rekindled tensions between the United States and Russia while transcending traditional bilateral dynamics, evolving into a multifaceted and multipolar contest. In this context, the rise of China as a near-polar power with expanding economic and security ambitions, alongside Greenland’s increasing strategic significance due to its geographical location and resource endowments, is particularly noteworthy. The research employs a deductive analytical methodology to unpack these complex dynamics, aiming to explain the emerging pattern of competition characterized by multiple actors and intertwined levels of power. Furthermore, it assesses the implications of this rivalry for regional and global stability, dedicating special attention to the roles of China and Greenland as critical elements in understanding the shifting balance of Arctic power. The study underscores that comprehending the interplay of these variables is essential for anticipating the region’s future trajectory
